22/12/23: – On the bench today was a very nice Grandstand Hawk, bought from eBay as a non worker. It’s a fairly rare radio so nice to pick one up so cheaply. All that turned out to be wrong with it was a dodgy microphone. Once that was replaced, the radio was back in action, albeit as deaf as a post and only putting out 2w. I put it through the usual tune up, although there wasn’t much that was ‘usual’ about it. A fairly unique circuit board – similar to, though not the same as the Lowe TX40. 8 RX and 5 TX stages to tune, made this a tricky one, but I got there in the end. Full 4w, average sensitivity and initial reports suggest audio a bit ‘toppy’ but all-in-all, I like this radio.
