My Amstrad 900 was not working on receipt but, having aligned the VCO and attended to a couple of dry joints, it came back to life. These had an unfair reputation as ‘bleed over boxes’. In fact, the 900 chassis was made in Japan (as were the early 901s) and were perfectly fine. It was the later 901s, made in Hong Kong and some pirate versions, that were poor and gave the whole series the unwelcome reputation. This little radio is now surprisingly good on both TX and RX. My adjustment diagram is included below for information.
