The Harrier CBX
Back at the beginning of the 1980’s, CB radio was my introduction to radio and what has become a lifelong hobby. It was CB radio that led me to 11m ‘freebanding’, shortwave listening and eventually to amateur radio. In recent years, I have tended to return to CB partly because of its accessibility, not just to other radio nuts but to anybody. Of course, nostalgia plays a part and it was nostalgia that led me to start collecting, initially the radios I had back then (and there were quite a few!) and then 1980s CB radios in general. There were well over 100 UKFM CB radios on sale back in the 1980’s so, it is definitely a work in progress!
I’d like to acknowledge the marvellous and ongoing series of repair, alignment and test videos by Richard G0OJF & Richard 2E0FKC (Mr. Chippie) on their youtube channel. This amazing series has been an enormous help to me in learning how to service UKFM CB radios. I am still learning and have lots more to learn and following along with Richard’s videos has been incredibly helpful and informative. Thank you Richard.
The UK CB27/81 Index
The following is unlikely to be the full list. If you know of other UKFM CB radios made during the 1980s please drop me an email (andy@andymellettbrown.com). The index excludes handhelds. Follow the links for radios in my collection. Please note that I am currently building these pages so some will be incomplete.
